V S Remya

V S Remya is a 2nd Rank holder in the All India Sangeeth Visharad (A 7-Year Course) in Hindustani Classical Music (Vocal) (2017-18), conducted by the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Miraj, Maharastra. It is the first time that a Keralite has attained a rank in this category. She received the award of Hari Om Trust Dwiteeya Puraskar (Gayan) from renowned Tabla Maestro, Taalyogi Padmasree Pandit Sri. Suresh Talwalkar in May 2019 in the function held in Mumbai.

VS Remya is a 'Grade-A' artist of Akashvani and has presented more than 60 light music programs in AIR, Kozhikode & Kannur Stations.

VS Remya was introduced to Carnatic music at the early age of five, under the tutelage of Sri Palai C K Ramachandran. She has won many accolades in Inter-School and University competitions. She has been pursuing Hindustani music for the last 15 years under the guidance of Guruji Pandit Vijay Sursen who belongs to the Mewati Swathi Gharana. Currently, she is pursuing Alankar, Post Graduation equivalent course in Hindustani classical music conducted by Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Meeraj, Maharastra.

She was initiated into the world of Ghazals by her Guruji Pandit Vijay Sursen, and has performed her first solo Ghazal concert at Thunjan Paramb, Tirur, in an event marking the opening of the Annual Vidyarambha Maholstavam 2014, inaugurated by Mr. Kamal (Film Director) and presided by Jnanapeedh Laurent Sri MT Vasudevan Nair. Later, she did many more Ghazal programs, which were equally appreciated by the Music fraternity and aficionados. She performed a Solo Bhajan concert at Prasanthi Nilayam, Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh in July 2019 and has done Bhajan and Ghazal concerts for TV channels like Doordarshan & Darshana and many other prestigious venues.

As part of a fund-raising event for Sukritam Charitable Trust, organized by Calicut Music Club in association with the Rotary Club Calicut Cyber City, at Calicut Town Hall, on 1st of March 2015, she performed another solo Ghazal program, which was acclaimed very much by music lovers, the memories of which will linger in their minds for long. She could easily and effectively bring out the multiple hues of Ghazal.

VS Remya is a post-graduate in Commerce and was a faculty in St. Joseph's College, Devagiri, Calicut, for 2 years, but had to forgo the same to fully devote her time to her passion for music.
